If you are reading this article, you might have recently said ‘goodbye’ to your beloved animal. I understand that this is a very hard time for you. Please allow me to give you my sincere condolences. It is my greatest hope that this article will help all grieving pet parents heal and find peace of mind.
Saying ‘Goodbye’ to a precious animal is a very devastating experience for every devoted pet parent. Many people admit that losing their beloved animals is harder than losing a human family member. I believe this is true for many, but why is it so?
Why grieving for pets is so hard?
Animals know us more than anyone else, perhaps including ourselves. When I work with my clients, they are often so surprised how much their animals know about them and their life. Animals are best observers. They are watching us much more than we think. Even when they are not ‘watching’, they pick up our energy using senses and feel our emotions as if they are of their own.
Animals never judge or criticize us even when we think the worst of ourselves. They know how to reach a hidden part of our hearts where no one else can reach and feel our hearts. They may also respond to our energy and emotions through their behaviour. They may try to cheer us up by making us laugh or give us some space until our anger or frustration subsides. Whatever their response may be, they response in a way they do, because they know that’s what we need at the time.
They are also our biggest fans and the best cheer leaders who bring us love, joy and happiness. All they want is for us to be happy. They are always there for us. They love us unconditionally and make us feel very safe around them. That is why we can easily open our hearts to them. When we are busy and our minds go all over the place, they bring us back to ‘right now’ and ground us. They help us regain our true self and give us the opportunity to ‘breathe’, which we tend to forget when we are stressed or caught up with our busy life.
When we open our hearts to our animals, magic happens. We begin to see new visions in our life and the world we live in. It’s like someone holds a torch for us to see the path that we never noticed that existed. We begin to see who we really are, what our purpose is, and what’s important in our life. Also, we learn that true happiness comes from simple things in our life. As we start walking on this newly found path, we begin to receive new possibilities and life transformation.
This amazing connection we have with our animals is very special. It is a connection that we hardly experience with our fellow humans. Once we create this special connection with an animal, it becomes part of us and we never want to let it go. That is why losing their physical presence of a pet is a devastating experience for many pet parents.
I was not an exception…
this was the beginning…
I used to have a Yellow Lab named Funny. We were “twin souls”. It was a connection that I have never had with anyone before. When she left her physical world so unexpectedly, I completely lost myself like a little child. I still clearly remember how strange I felt when she left. The world seemed to be such an empty place. I felt like part of me went with her and landed on a completely different planet. It was like a bad dream. I could not accept that my girl was ‘deceased’. But the truth was that it was the reality. The reality that I had to learn to function with what’s left of me.
In order to cope with the grief, I reached out to an Animal Communicator. She told me that Funny was going to send me butterflies as a sign. Out of curiosity, I started paying attention to butterflies.
One day, I had such an amazing experience.
butterfly story
Prior to my career as an Animal Communicator and Healer, I was a teacher. One day, one of the parents brought us a caterpillar. After a while, a beautiful brown butterfly hatched out of cocoon. I didn’t want it to stay in a plastic container, which we kept it until it hatched, so I opened the lid to set the butterfly free. But it didn’t fly away even when I took it outside. I sat on the bench with the butterfly on my arm and waited for it to fly away. It was surrounded by curious little children, which was hardly a safe situation for this new born butterfly. However, it kept staying on my arm as long as it was allowed. Even children noticed this unusual behaviour of the butterfly and said to me, “He wants to go home with you!” On that day, the butterfly did come home with me. Something told me that it was Funny who came to visit me as a butterfly.
Soon, I realised that signs from her were everywhere. It was not just butterflies, but also things that reminded me of her.
To this day, she still sends me her love and let me know that she is with me through very special signs.
signs are everywhere
Signs from your deceased animals are everywhere. They have such creative ways to let you know that they love you and are still with you. Sings can also be something personal, such as something that reminds you of a special memory with them.
Here are some examples of signs (not limited to):
Seeing a butterfly
Finding a feather
Seeing a rainbow
Smelling of your animal
Finding their fur
Seeing something in the corner of your eye
Feeling them brushing against your leg
Feeing cold air
Hearing their collar jingle
Moving or falling objects
Seeing their name in printing
Hearing them barking, panting, meowing, walking, etc.
Seeing them in your dream
Spotting a meaningful shape of the cloud
Seeing the same breed of the animal at particular moment
The other animal of yours behaving like them
Finding their photo unexpectedly
Feeling their presence
Feeling them jumping onto your bed like they used to
Hearing them snore
The list goes on and on…
What if I don’t notice the sign?
Even if you don’t notice any signs, don’t feel disappointed. These signs are subtle and can easily be missed by many. If you miss one, your animal will send you another. They will keep sending you a sign until you notice it.
Are you wondering whether you will know if it is a sign or not? Let me reassure you that you will know it when you see or experience it. Your heart will tell you. After all, your heart is still connected with your precious animal although they are now living in a different dimension. It is important to be open to receive signs. Once you open the door to the possibilities, you will start noticing the signs everywhere.
Some examples…
Here are some examples that were experienced by other pet parents.
Michelle (Cat Parent)
Right after my cat, Polly, passed away, I was telling my colleague about my wonderful memories with my cat. Suddenly, things that were at the back of the shelf got knocked over! There was no one else there so there was no way for them to get knocked over like that! Both my colleague and I looked at each other in disbelief. I instantly knew that it was my dear Polly!!
Sonya (Dog Parent)
One afternoon, I was attending a service at spiritual church. At the end of the service, we sang some songs. When we were about to sing a last song, audio player started playing up. No matter what service staff tried to do, it didn’t play any song but ‘Tears In Heaven’, which was not on the song list of the day. Instantly, I knew, it was my girl! This is the song I used to listen to over and over again right after she passed away.
Stephanie (Dog Parent)
One morning, I was at the bus stop. While I was waiting for the bus to arrive, I started thinking about my Yellow Lab, George. I was thinking how much I miss him. Suddenly, I felt the urge to turn around. When I turned around, there was a Yellow Lab guide dog waiting for the same bus!
Jasmine (Dog Parent)
One night, I was in my bedroom. Suddenly, I felt very cold air from behind. Window was closed. So was the door. There was no way for air to blow into the room. I knew it was my boy came to say, “Hi Mummy, I’m here!”
Mika (Dog Parent)
I had such an amazing experience in the spiritual group that I attended. In this group, we practised reading messages with milk and food colouring experiment. In this experiment, I saw some very distinct signs. Instantly, I knew that they were from my girl, Funny. She even told me that I was going to have an orange cat. Several years later, my ginger cat, Joyous, came into my life!!
Haruna (Cat Parent)
When I opened a drawer to look for something and found my Millie’s photo. I instantly knew that she was with me!
Mikiko (Dog Parent)
One day after my beloved Peru passed away, I found her registration document and realised that she passed away on the day when she officially became mine! Instantly, I knew that Peru wanted to tell me why she left this world on the day she did!
